General Description Neotame

Part I

Neotame is a dipeptide methyl ester and an artificial sweetener. It is composed of N-(3,3-dimethylbutyl)-L-aspartic acid and methyl L-phenylalanate units joined by a peptide bond, thus, its closely related to aspartame.

Neotame is supplied as a white or off-white powder. It has a sweetening intensity that is 7000-13000 that of sucrose.

Neotame is not metabolized by the body and does not contain calories. It is made up of aspartame, phenylalanine, and methanol.
